As you may have seen on television, cheese often has to be aged for many days, months or years to be truly ‘ripe’. This is where these two types of cheese vary. Mozzarella is a cheese that does not need to age long in the storage room, so it is relatively soft. Mozzarella cheese is easier to cut than Parmesan due to its smooth texture.

There are actually two types of mozzarella cheese, fresh and aged. Cow’s milk, from which it is made; it ages in the storage area, either for a very short time or a little longer, depending on the type desired.

Mozzarella cheese is used mainly to make pizzas or for any other food that you want to obtain a phenomenal flavor. Its smoothness makes it easy to melt in the oven.

PARMESAN

Parmesan cheese is of another type. It is not cheap as it has been stored for many months. This is an example of a tough type cheese. This is the reason why the use of Parmesan is generally only as a dressing in salads and spaghetti. Parmesan is known for its strong flavor. If you like to taste cheese, Parmesan is the recommended type for you.

Originally, Parmesan cheese was made from buffalo milk. However, due to the lack of resources to feed and care for them, in addition to the rarity of the animal; today’s Parmesan cheese is also basically made from cow’s milk.

These two types of cheese are just two of the many variations of cheeses used around the world. As we all know, cheese is made with milk. However, even though most types of cheese are made from the same type of milk, there is a wide variety of flavors, textures, and toughness.

One of the most interesting curiosities related to cheese, refers to the holes of the Swiss cheese. Swiss cheese has holes in it because the gas expands during the ripening period. Remember that the older the cheese is (regardless of the type) more expensive.

Differences between Parmesan cheese and mozzarella

  1. The texture of mozzarella cheese is smoother than that of Parmesan.
  2. Parmesan cheese is more expensive than mozzarella cheese.
  3. Mozzarella cheese is used mostly in pizzas, while Parmesan is used more as a topping.
  4. Parmesan has a stronger flavor than mozzarella.
  5. Mozzarella cheese requires less aging time.
