MOTHER’S DAY Difference b/w Mother’s Day and Women’s Day

Before it was believed that Mother’s Day had its origin in the celebration of Mother’s Sunday, celebrated by Catholics and Protestants; but the truth is that this is not the case, since that festival consisted of returning to the “mother church” or cathedral in the area where the person had grown up, to render service there.

Mother’s Day as we know it today is a celebration whose date of origin is marked in the early 20th century and is mainly due to a woman named Anna Jarvis.

Anna Jarvis, whose daughter bore the same name, founded several clubs in different cities in the United States. These were intended to help improve the living conditions of working men and mothers.

When her mother died, Anna Jarvis daughter managed to establish Mother’s Day internationally in 1919.

This day is celebrated (in some countries on the second Sunday in May and in others the last) in honor of the sacrifices mothers make to support their children and family.

WOMEN’S DAY

International Women’s Day was also established in the early 20th century, in New York City. In a historical moment in which women could work, but did not have laws regulating their hours and working conditions. Back then you work long hours in horrible conditions.

All of this changed in 1908, when a group of women marched through New York City demanding that working hours be shorter and conditions be better.

In 1909 women won the fight when the first National Women’s Day was declared in the United States.

Today Women’s Day is celebrated to recognize the achievements made by women.
