Difference Between Galaxy and Universe
Are you one of those who have always wanted to have a telescope? Or are you one of those who has always been more fascinated by the world and the work of astronauts and astronomers than by that of any other type of professional? If you have answered yes to either of the two questions or to both, it means that you are a person interested in the knowledge of the universe and its components. Difference Between Galaxy and Universe
When we talk about the universe or the elements that compose it, it can sometimes be difficult to differentiate some things from others, for that reason, below we explain what the difference is between the universe and the galaxy ; since there are people who believe that it is the same thing.
GALAXY Difference Between Galaxy and Universe
Galaxies are those that comprise a collection of planets, stars, stellar dust and other types of interstellar matter that is gathered together thanks to the force of gravity. A galaxy can contain any number of elements, there is no predetermined limit.
For example, a small galaxy might contain a few thousand stars, while a larger galaxy might contain trillions of stars. The Milky Way is an example of a galaxy and it is this in which we are located.
So far astronomers can only provide information about the galaxies that are observable in the universe, however, it is said that there could be billions of galaxies about which we know absolutely nothing.
Also, there are three main types of galaxies:
Spirals : they are a bit flat and their ellipsoidal systems are due to the movements of their stars. Planets, stars, dust, and gases can be found in the disks of these galaxies. They rotate around their center and do so on a regular basis.
Elliptical : their discs are flatter and are maintained thanks to their rotation. The giant elliptical galaxies that have been observed are about two million light years away.
Irregular : the shape of this type of galaxy is very different from the shape of spirals and ellipticals. They lack a regular shape or structure.
The luminosity of galaxies can be related to the number of stars present in them. Those that emit a continuous spectrum of energy are better known and are more studied, since these spectra are useful when understanding their operation.
UNIVERSE
The universe can be understood as a vast space in which everything that exists is present. Although astronomers have been asked how big this is, no one has yet given an exact and forceful answer, perhaps because it is claimed that the universe is in constant motion and expansion.
The universe includes all the matter and energy that exists, so we can say that it is as if it were a huge box in which everything fits and is found; including all galaxies, since the latter are only components of the universe.
