Difference Between Climate Change and Global Warming

Climate change and global warming are two widely mentioned phenomena today and people often use both terms interchangeably, perhaps because they are to some extent linked to each other. However, they are two different phenomena that are causing drastic changes on Earth.  Difference Between Climate Change and Global Warming

Here’s what the difference is between global warming and climate change

GLOBAL WARMING  Difference Between Climate Change and Global Warming

Global warming is the accelerated warming of the temperature on Earth. It is caused due to an increase in the emission of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and sulfur gases.

Emissions from industries, the burning of solid waste, the burning of fossil fuels that are used mainly by vehicles; they are the main sources that emit large amounts of greenhouse gases worldwide; therefore, all this is considered as one of the causes of global warming.

Accelerated warming can be measured in Earth’s atmosphere and oceans.

The progressive destruction of the ozone layer (caused mainly by the aforementioned gases) causes more and more rays of the sun to reach the Earth and this is what causes warming. Evidence of the existence of this phenomenon can be seen in the melting of ice caps, dry lakes, the reduction of habitats for animals, the increase in global temperature, changes in climate, coral bleaching, the Rising sea levels…

Global warming is the man-induced or non-man-made increase in global temperatures, it also causes a rise in sea level; which eventually causes many small islands to be covered by it. Thus extinguishing the animal and plant life that can be found in them.

CLIMATE CHANGE

Climate change is the natural change (it can also have anthropogenic causes) of the climate at a global or regional level over time. A change in Earth’s energy can result in an increase or decrease in global temperatures.

There are several reasons for climate change, including volcanic eruptions, changes in ocean circulation, and even tectonic activities. In addition, there are other factors such as rainfall, humidity, air pressure and wind direction. Los changes in these factors over a long period of time, lead to drastic climate changes.

Climate change has been a continuous process since the formation of the Earth, but due to the human factor; it has accelerated and is becoming a concern today.

Key differences

  • Global warming has to do with the increase in temperature at a global level, while climate change refers to the change in climatic conditions; either at a global or regional level (it is not limited only to the increase in temperature). Includes: humidity, rain, wind and other meteorological events.
  • Global warming has as its main cause the emission of greenhouse gases, while climate change; in addition to other natural factors; it is also caused by the same global warming.
  • Global warming can be seen around the world, while climate change is perceived on a regional or local scale.
