Difference Between Dream and Nightmare

Without a doubt, the dream world has always been and continues to be an important subject of debate and study between different groups of people with the most varied professions and interests. So much interest has been placed in dreams throughout history that it is not surprising that in ancient times they were seen as a means to know the future and in other times, a little less ancient, even writers like Calderón de la Barca wrote lines like this: “Life is a dream, and dreams are dreams.”  Difference Between Dream and Nightmare

In dreams, people have different types of experiences and sometimes to their surprise they are presented with complex images, events, feelings and emotions that can even generate confusion, a lot of joy or fear.

If you are also interested in the world of dreams and its types, keep reading, because in today’s article we explain the difference between nightmares and dreams; two concepts that are often not well understood and that it is important to understand in order to know how to recognize which of the two things we experience when we surrender to the arms of Morpheus.

DREAMS  Difference Between Dream and Nightmare

When we sleep soundly we have dreams. It is said that they are always had regardless of whether we remember them or not. They do not have a formula to be understood and do not necessarily follow some type of logically established plot.

Dreams can be fun, action-packed, exciting, crazy, emotional, abstract, strange, and sometimes horrible. They are like watching a movie very close to the screen, where you are always the protagonist regardless of the role you play; that can go from simple ethereal observer to character of great action within history.

Note:  this concept can also have a connotation related to desires or goals that are not considered entirely possible to achieve.

NIGHTMARE

On the other hand, it is good to make it clear that all nightmares are dreams; But not all dreams are nightmares They are characterized by being unpleasant dreams that can have a strong negative impact on individuals.

Nightmares offer unpleasant experiences and if those who have them are children, they can often feel very scared. Also, like dreams, they do not necessarily follow the rules of logic; However, in the same way as the first ones, nightmares generally involve some of the elements of reality that have the most impact on us.

For example, an employee who feels insecure about his job might have a nightmare in which the boss makes a fool of him and dismisses him in a humiliating way; Or someone who is feeling ill might dream of attending your own funeral.

Finally, scientists have frequently tried to understand the world of dreams; however, so far in this field many things remain as subjective as some of the experiences that Sigmund Freud describes in his work “The Interpretation of Dreams.”
