Difference between Fat and Lipid with tabular form

Fats differ from some lipids in physical and chemical properties and play a crucial role in metabolic and chemical functions. Lipase is an enzyme that breaks down lipids and fats in the human body. This enzyme is produced by the pancreas. Difference between Fat and Lipid with tabular form

The fats are divided into unsaturated fats and saturated fats. Trans and cis fats are included in the category of unsaturated fats. Lipids are hydrophobic in nature. They form various structures such as liposomes, membranes or vesicles with their amphiphilic nature.

There are two types of biological component lipids are isoprene groups and ketoacyl. The eight categories of lipids are glycerolipids, polyketides, fatty acids, prenol lipids, sphingolipids, glycerophospholipids, saccharolipids, and sterol lipids. Below are the main differences between lipids and fats.

Lipids vs fats Difference between Fat and Lipid with tabular form

Here is a comparative table with the main differences between lipids and fats:

Lipids Fats
They are not soluble in water, but in organic solvents, they are soluble. They are oily substances that are found under the skin and surrounding the organs.
They are a diverse group of biomolecules. They are a kind of lipid.
They are both solid and liquid. They are just solid.
They are structural components and energy molecules of the body. It serves as a source of energy.
They are of three types: steroids, triglycerides, phospholipids. They are of two types: saturated and unsaturated fats.
What are lipids ? Difference between Fat and Lipid with tabular form

Lipids are organic biomolecules insoluble in water but in organic solvents, these are soluble. These are of three different types: phospholipids, triglycerides, and steroids. Triglycerides are the largest class of lipids. They are also known as natural fats. Phospholipids are derived from triglycerides and comprise two fatty acid molecules. Steroids are hydrophobic molecules and are present as cholesterol and hormones in the body.

What are fats?

These are oily substances that are found under the skin or surround the organs. Due to a high saturation rate, lipids are solid at room temperature. Unsaturated fats are known as oils that are liquid at room temperature. Saturated fats are good for your health as they increase the levels of good cholesterol. This prevents heart disease in humans.
