Honey: the nectar of flowers Honey vs Royal jelly with components

Honey! You always hear about her! However, you should certainly know what it is about, but do you know enough? If not, you have come to the right place!

Definition of honey   Honey vs Royal jelly with components

Honey is one of many people’s favorite breakfast ingredients. It is a substance created by honey bees from the nectar of flowers that they have been able to harvest. They take it from the flowers themselves and transfer it to a cell in the hive. In addition, bees use this nectar to feed themselves when weather conditions are unfavorable.

Honey, in general, is golden in color and quite runny. However, it can crystallize and therefore be more difficult.

Composition of honey Honey vs Royal jelly with components

Honey, although it is a natural product, has a series of components that should not be overlooked:

  • Glucose, but these have different origins: it is possible to find fructose, glucose and maltose.
  • Water.
  • Proteins
  • Mineral salts
  • Organic acids.
  • Lots of vitamins.
  • Lipids
  • Complex organic components such as enzymes or antibiotic factors.
  • Diverse and varied biological substances.
  • Pollen grains

As you can see, honey has a lot of sugar. However, it is also a very natural product that is good for health.

The benefits of honey

Honey, although it is a breakfast ingredient, is still an element with many benefits. It can be used naturally or in the form of sweets, to relieve sore throats. But you should know that depending on the type of honey, the benefits may be different:

  • Some honeys have more laxative benefits.
  • Others are used to heal wounds and inflammations.

Also note that honey can be used for snake bites, which is not insignificant. And if you are looking for a natural antioxidant, honey is the perfect ingredient. In fact, it can properly strengthen the immune system, which can be interesting especially during winter.

Honey preservation

As you must certainly suspect, honey is an element that must be kept in favorable and optimal conditions. In fact, if it is not well preserved, it will not be good for tasting either. If you want to keep your honey, you must leave it in a dark place and away from moisture. Basements should be avoided, but a closet can do the trick.

It should also be borne in mind that the room temperature should also be optimal: it should be around 25 degrees.

Feel free to eat it quickly after harvest. A period of six months must be respected. If you eat it after six months, don’t panic, it will still be just as good. But it will have lost some of its nutrients.

If you notice a crystallization in the honey, there is nothing to be alarmed about! It is perfectly normal. However, you can make it more liquid by leaving it in a water bath for 2-3 hours. The temperature of the latter should not exceed 40 degrees.

Honey harvest

Now that we know a little more about honey and its virtues, we will explain how it can be harvested. There is nothing complicated about it. You must first have the right tools. In other words, a beekeeper team is required to be able to collect the honey safely.

Next, the different cell frames must be removed, taking care to leave some for the bees to feed on during the winter. Once the frames are in hand, go to the honey house to remove the wax from the combs.

Once the honey has been collected, simply replace the hive frames. This will allow the bees to make honey again; If you want to know more about bees, I invite you to read the article on the differences between wasps and bees here.

Honey price

The price of honey is not very expensive. You can get away with it at a price similar to that of a jam jar; Honey can easily be found in supermarkets or local markets (which I recommend whenever possible). But, you can also find some recently on commercial sites like Amazon (see a pricing example here)

Royal jelly: a food also created by bees.

Royal jelly! For you, it was the same as honey! But before we find out the differences between these two foods, we will first explain what it is really about. Ready to find out more?

Definition of royal jelly

The product, called royal jelly, comes simply from the secretion of the cephalic glandular system. It is the worker bees that are capable of producing royal jelly. However, this occurs between the fifth and fourteenth day of its existence.

Note also that royal jelly has a rather off-white and slightly gelatinous color. But it also serves as food for:

  • The larvae chosen to become queens
  • And the queen bee colony.

It is also important to know that wasps can also make bee jelly. But this has to be a case of force majeure.

Composition of royal jelly

Royal jelly contains several ingredients. I’ve made a list of them just for you:

  • Lipids: 4.5%.
  • Carbohydrates: mainly glucose and fructose.
  • Proteins: 13%
  • Water: 66%, approximately.

The benefits of royal jelly

Royal jelly has a number of benefits and virtues for health and the human body. The first thing that can be observed about royal jelly is simply that it essentially acts on the concentration and balance of the nervous system.

Note also that royal jelly gives the necessary strength and energy that a human being needs to last all day. It is also a food that helps fight bacteria. But royal jelly is known to be very effective against the flu as well.

If you have children, don’t neglect royal jelly. Royal jelly is very good for their growth, which is an important factor in the first years of their lives.

Preservation of royal jelly

Royal jelly is a very fragile food. Indeed, the storage conditions must be truly optimal, if it is to retain its benefits. The best way to preserve it is simply preferable in the fridge. It can be kept between six months and a year. However, when you open the jar, you should consume your royal jelly within a month.

Royal jelly harvest Honey vs Royal jelly with components

To harvest royal jelly, it is necessary to remove the different frames and take them directly from a laboratory. Then the substance has to be eliminated cell by cell, which can take a long time. It is not just anyone who can take care of the harvest, only specialized beekeepers can do it.

Royal jelly price Honey vs Royal jelly with components

Obviously royal jelly will be much more expensive than a jar of honey due to this more complicated harvesting method. To facilitate storage, it is often found in pharmacies in the form of supplements (for example, this type of presentation), but you can also find small jars of natural royal jelly online.

Differences between honey and royal jelly

Now we will see the differences between honey and royal jelly. And you will notice that these two elements are not necessarily the same thing!

Honey vs. royal jelly: the texture!

Royal jelly and honey are not the same color: in fact, jelly is whiter than honey. Note also that there is a difference in texture between these foods: Honey is more liquid than royal jelly.

The composition

Royal jelly has far fewer ingredients than honey. However, both are natural foods.

The main reason for this difference is that the bees themselves do not work and produce these substances.

Profits

While honey has benefits for the skin, but also for the throat, royal jelly provides true inner well-being.

Conservation

Preservation is also very different between honey and royal jelly. One should be kept in a dark place, while the other appreciates the freshness of the fridge.

Harvest

It takes much less time to harvest the honey. Indeed, it is enough to remove the liquid substance from the frames. In the case of royal jelly, this has to be done cell by cell, which may take longer.

Conclusion

In conclusion, royal jelly and honey are two very different but very similar foods. Feel free to try both, you won’t be disappointed!
