Difference Between Duty and Obligation

Development as a person is a process. You may have learned that you cannot change yourself instantly. It is not even enough to wish to be better. You have to do it with the decisions you make and the actions you take focused on achieving the vision you have of yourself as a person.  Difference Between Duty and Obligation

It is a long-term process, but no one wants to become indifferent; that passes by society. Even some convicted criminals repent and wish for a better life for themselves.

Duties and obligations are two different tasks that a person has to face in order to be better in life. After all, they can’t always be avoided. But many times people get confused with these terms and tend to label equally what is a duty and what is an obligation.

Even those who have suffered from life ailments since birth have duties and obligations. Yes, it can be exhausting; but duties and obligations are some of the many ingredients that make one human.

SHOULD  Difference Between Duty and Obligation

To begin with, duties are tasks that can or cannot be performed in favor of other people or ourselves. They are moral responses to certain things that one feels the need to do or comply with, even if there is no explicit code or law that forces us to obey.

An example of this is duty to parents. If the children so wish, their basic needs can be attended to; but that is their free choice and they do not have to be accountable to anyone if they do not.

OBLIGATION

Obligation, on the contrary, refers to something that needs to be done whether we like it or not. You have to comply with the obligations, because they are explicitly stated and cannot be ignored if you live and belong to a society.

Obligations are not subject only to the wishes and consciences of individuals, nor to their morality; but they must be fulfilled everywhere. They are more related to the legal field, unlike the duties that are purely moral.

Key differences between duties and obligations

  • Duties are moral, while obligations are legal.
  • Duties are fulfilled if the individual so wishes, while obligations are not subject to anyone’s wishes; they must always be fulfilled.
