Difference Between Heat and Temperature

It is no longer strange that in our day to day we meet people (or even ourselves) who confuse different concepts by believing that they refer to the same thing. Among the terms that generate more confusion in people are those that have to do with science; but above all with Physics.  Difference Between Heat and Temperature

Heat and temperature are related to each other, but to understand this association one must be familiar with the concept of kinetic energy of objects.

Kinetic energy was first discovered by the Earl of Rumford, who noticed that heat was produced in a cannon barrel hole. He deduced that this was due to the movement taking place in the object. From all this he also deduced that every time a force acts on a body and causes it to move, it is working with energy: kinetic energy. This constitutes his most important contribution to thermodynamics. The importance of knowing this concept is due to the fact that heat is included between kinetic energy.

TEMPERATURE  Difference Between Heat and Temperature

Temperature is basically the measurement of the average kinetic energy of molecules. This means that the temperature of something will be lower if the average kinetic energy of the molecules is low; whereas it will be high if the kinetic energy is high.

Temperature refers to the measure of what is hot, cold, or warm relative to some standard. For this purpose the thermometer is often used.

Temperature is mostly measured in degrees Celsius, but internationally, the Kelvin scale or absolute scale (Kelvin (K)) and the Fahrenheit scale are also used.

HOT

It is the energy that is transferred between bodies or objects due to the variation in temperature (it is important to clarify that bodies do not have heat, but thermal energy). Heat is related to temperature, because it always flows from hotter objects to cooler objects, and temperature is the magnitude by which this flow or energy is measured.

The difference between heat and temperature is also given because in the case of temperature, it depends on the mass of the substance. For example: 30 grams of water at 70 degrees Celsius will have more thermal energy than 25 grams of water at 70 degrees Celsius.

Heat can be described as the amount of thermal energy contained in an object. Heat measurement is done in Joule or Joule (J).

Heat can be transferred from one object to another by three different means: conduction, radiation, and convection. The difference between heat and temperature is clear; since heat is energy and temperature is the magnitude that is responsible for measuring said energy.

Finally, the object with the highest temperature tends to be the one that transfers heat to the other object with the lowest temperature; the latter is that he receives the transfer.

Key differences between heat and temperature

  • Temperature is responsible for measuring kinetic energy (in this case thermal energy), while heat is the thermal energy that a body has.
  • Temperature is measured in degrees Celsius, Kelvin scale, or degrees Fahrenheit; while heat is measured in Joules or Joules.
