Difference between Thesis and Dissertation

Nobody said that getting a good education was easy, much less when it comes to college or higher education. In the latter case, achieving a degree is even more difficult than passing all the courses that are required to get there.  Difference between Thesis and Dissertation

Precisely in order to complete the course and finally acquire the degree, it is very likely that a thesis or a dissertation will have to be written. Now, what is the difference between a dissertation and a thesis? If you have doubts about it or are simply looking for a little more information to complement what you already know, keep reading, because below we will explain everything you need to know about this interesting topic.

THESIS  Difference between Thesis and Dissertation

A thesis is defined as the support of a postulate or theory, that is, it is the statement of a premise that is based on evidence or logical reasoning to be maintained and tested.

In the university context, the presentation of a thesis is one of the most popular and accepted ways to opt for the acquisition of a certain degree in a specific field of study. One of the main differences between thesis and dissertation has to do with the fact that the former involves proving or justifying an approach based on personal research.

DISSERTATION

On the other hand, a dissertation is a type of long essay about a particular subject or topic and is especially written for the purpose of obtaining a diploma or university degree .

In some contexts, a distinction is made between thesis and dissertation by assuming that the former is used for bachelor’s and master’s degrees, while the latter works for doctorates. However, in other contexts this is presented the other way around.

Dissertations depend on primary and secondary sources, an element that helps to differentiate them a little better from theses, which depend to a greater extent on primary sources at the time of the research.

Finally, in some contexts these two terms could be used as if they were synonymous, but it is good to always keep in mind that they are not interchangeable at all times. In order to avoid misunderstandings, it is best to ask campus authorities to be clear about how they define both terms.
